Hope lives!
One of the big stories of the week has been DC’s plan to publish eight variant covers in August for the 40th anniversary of the Super Powers action-figure line — featuring figures that have never been produced (save one).
You can check all of them out here and here.
Naturally, the immediate question was whether McFarlane Toys, which produces the modern counterpart to the original Kenner range, would hop on board and produce these as actual toys. They’ve already done Gold Superman, but what about Shirtless Batman, First Appearance Nightwing, Classic Wonder Girl and the rest?
Well, we spoke to a McFarlane spokesperson — and they didn’t exactly shoot it down: “We have no firm commitments… but you never know!”
Now, don’t go bananas here. The first part of that statement is as important as the second part. But leaving things open-ended means there’s hope.
So you know what to do: Pre-order those variant covers and show there’s a market. And flood any social media where you think Todd McFarlane might be looking. Because we do know this — McFarlane listens to the fans.

A corporation that actually cares what fans want? That’s exceptionally rare nowadays, considering the fact that hacks are mostly dominating the corporate world.
