Many thoughts:

— As noted, the Silver Surfer ish is part of a run of the first seven Marvel is publishing into midyear.

— The Ms. Marvel issue is timed to a Carol Danvers mini launching in April that delves into her past.

Spider-Man Noir #1 is clearly timed to the upcoming Amazon Spider-Noir series, starring Nicolas Cage. The premiere date hasn’t been announced, but this indicates it’ll be any time now.

— There don’t appear to be plans to publish the whole four-issue Spider-Man Noir series, by the by.

— The publication of Noir only lends credence to my not-genius theory that Spider-Man: Brand New Day is coming to the Facsimile ranks.

Obligatory Price Comparison #1: An unslabbed, NM+ original Ms. Marvel #20 recently sold on eBay for $32.

Obligatory Price Comparison #2: An unslabbed, FN+ original Silver Surfer #2 went for $110.

Obligatory Price Comparison #3: An unslabbed, high-grade original Spider-Man Noir #1 (Zircher cover) recently sold on eBay for $300. ($300!)

  1. No idea why the’d do such a crazy obscure book as the Ms Marvel issue…?

As for the Surfer issues, I wish they’d do Marvel Epic Collection Silver Surfer Vol-2 already…which would contain the original 18 issues…LONG OVERDUE…

    • Yeah, it’s not like they’re going to put that costume on a movie version of Ms Marvel. Oh well, I’ll probably pick it up anyways 🙂 .

    • You’ll probably get your wish after the facsimile run is done. IMHO they’re doing that run to mitigate the cost of remastering those issues for the Epic. Personally, I will skip that volume as I have the Masterworks, but I would like to see his second series completed in Epics.

      • I also have the Surfer Masterworks, and the 1979 Fantasy Masterpieces reprints too, but I’ll buy the Epic Collection Vol-2 when it comes out, and yeah I’ll likely even buy the facsimile editions of #1-5…just loved some of those issues enough to have them in multiple formats…the only format I won’t buy is the Omnibus because they’re too damn big and heavy and not fun to read like that IMHO.

        • Same. Having the Masterworks TPB doesn’t preclude me from buying the EC volumes. I also have the Fantasy Masterpiece run. And several of the originals. I will still buy the facsimiles (in multiples) and the long-delayed-beyond-reasonable-expectations Epic Collection v2.

While we’re at it, I’d also like a facsimile of the Byrne one-shot with Tom Palmer.

  2. That Ms. Marvel issue is a choice. I assume it’s prompted by the costume change but why *that* triggered a facsimile is beyond me.

      • Two not-so-rando thoughts:

        1) OK, so that’s consistent with other facsimilies that tie into these recurring flashback miniseries, like Rogue: Savage Land. That said, it’s just adding to my annoyance that we didn’t get facsimiles of Uncanny X-Men #256-258 to tie into Psylocke: Ninja. (Yes, there’s odd Claremont fetishism and weird racial insensitivity in there, but I still want the facsimile, dangit.)

        2) Given how dramatically Carol’s character shifted in 2012, to include a new retconned origin, I keep hoping for a reveal that Warbird was off in space and the character we’ve seen since 2012 has been some kind of Kree impostor. That cover gives me hope. Who knows!

  3. As with others I’m surprised with the choice of a MS Marvel Facsimile since Marvel seems determined to identify Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel with a uniform based on the Don Heck/Gil Kane design. That said it will be interesting to see how quickly the thirty copies I will purchase for Halloween will be picked up by visiting trick or treaters. In my mind these books will be targeted to 10-12 age females, but young pre-teens may be intrigued by the striking Cockrum cover.

  4. I’ll get the first 2. Just because they are Bronze Age. I’d much rather see some original (Marvel) Captain Marvel issues get the facsmile treatment though. No desire for the noir Spider-Man. 2 out of 3…not going to complain. Little for everyone’s taste.

    • My complaint is that I want more than a trickle of pre-1985 facsimiles!
Let’s get the full run of X-Men from 94-143 done.
Let’s get all the Adams X-Men and Avengers issues done.
And don’t stop the Silver Surfer run at 7 issues, do the full series!

      • Some day we will get to the iTunes business model of comics where we can have a printing of any issue we want. But, until then and as long as we are dreaming, I’d love to see the very early Marvel “Tales of/to …” series.

      • I agree with both of you: X-Men 94-143 (and might as well throw in GS1 and annuals 😀 ), finish off Silver Surfer vol 1, and a run of Tales of Suspense and Tales to Astonish. Throw in a couple of golden age Marvels (Timely/Atlas). Was it Young Men that had Cap, Torch, and Sub-Mariner?

PS. I really missed out by missing out on the whole True Believers series. The local shop had a few issues left, but I would have gone nuts buying everything up to the 80s reprints, since they were so cheap.

      • As much as I appreciate the desire for completionism, I’m betting sales are a *huge* driver in these things, which is probably why we haven’t seen 12-issue runs from Marvel since Fantastic Four ended. Doesn’t mean it’s a bad idea–it means that comics fans are fickle and committed runs will see a decline in sales over time. They just will.

Still, I’m absolutely fine with them at least poking at some missing issues. There’s probably a case to be made for some more Byrne/Claremont UXM issues, or at least the Proteus saga (#125-128) will get another chunk done. And I keep advocating for #143 as a December release, which…Marvel keeps not doing.

        • I’m up for 125-128 facsimiles. I actually started collecting X-Men with 128. Pretty lucky timing, I guess. I recall reading a review, back in the day, where the person praised the Proteus storyline for bringing X-Men back to its roots, which was seeking out new mutants. For some reason, Marvel Comics Index 9A (X-Men) pops in my head when trying to remember where I read that.

With long runs of reprints (eg, Fantastic Four), I kind of figure that #1 would sell the most, but after that, sales would be consistent. It’s not like people don’t already know what they’re going to get issue by issue.
