Buncha thoughts:

— This is the only bona fide Facsimile Edition coming from Marvel in September, but there is a reprint of a classic you’ll want to know about.

— Curious whether Marvel will continue doing Facsimile runs or return to single issues only. They’ve been doing both.

Obligatory Price Comparison: An unslabbed, high-grade original recently sold on eBay for $129.

  1. So does Marvel not reveal long range plans for their facsimiles like they do for their trade paperbacks and Omnibus collections?

  2. I’m going to forever hate that Marvel stopped at #7 even though they did #14 years ago.

    • Unless they can show dwindling sales at a profitable level, then finish the run!

      • It’s not something I’m going to get angry at. My understanding this was always intended to be seven issues for…whatever reason. I’d like more, but they publish what they publish.

          • Perhaps because as of issue 8, the book went to the page count of other monthly releases? I have always held the opinion that back in that period of time a book selling for a quarter was a hard sell. Other than the successful DC and Marvel Annuals, I think quarter books did not perform that well. Cases in point; Silver Surfer, Marvel Super Heroes, Fantasy Masterpieces, all the Tower/THUNDER Agents books, the Myron Fass books. I am not sure what the success rate was of Marvel Tales and Marvel’s Greatest Comics that were led by reprints of Spidey and the Fantastic Four.

Yep. No anger here. Just my OCD’s need for a complete run and my excitement to read those stories again. It’s a business. Time is short on this earth, I’m not losing sleep over it.

    • Agreed. There has to be some demand out there for the rest of the series. These issues have so far been inexplicably skipped over for the Epic Collection for years now. Do they fear that a full facsimile release will hurt the EC volume? (If they wanted to maximize the EC sales, they could have released v2 five years ago…) This is a struggle to figure out…

  3. It’s now time for Marvel to do some Silver Age Key Facsimiles! TOS 36 JIM 83 TOA 27 DD 1 Avengers 1

    • I agree but I’d like to dig in deeper, Avengers 16, Sgt Fury 13, DD 7, 16 and 17, Cap 100, Spidey 16, The Steranko Cap issues. I have the impression they just did a facsimile of Daredevil 1. I still have a few copies of the True Believers DD 1 which we will give out this Halloween. Smart kids will grab the Mighty Marvel Masterpieces Daredevil books which feature the first 11 issues of Daredevil that we’ll have available.

      • I’d love Cap #100 and Avengers #4!!

    • They did Avengers #1 a few years ago. I would love if they did the first dozen issues, same as FF, but they haven’t. We have Avengers #1, 8, and 9.

Keep in mind that the facsimile initiatives largely tie into major releases or film. Most of these books aren’t launched out of nowhere. If there were a major new Thor initiative, sure, we might get a JiM #83.

  4. Did Marvel ever tell us why they’re only reprinting the 25 cent issues, 1-7? The rest were normal size, 15 cent issues.

I hope we at least get a facsimile of the Kirby “Silver Surfer Ultimate Cosmic Experience” GN, and the Byrne-drawn volume 2 special.
