MARVEL Set to Reprint Classic DOCTOR STRANGE AND DOCTOR DOOM: TRIUMPH AND TORMENT

EXCLUSIVE: The 1989 graphic novel by Roger Stern and Mike Mignola is going back to print, in comic-book format…

Marvel only has one Facsimile Edition coming in September, but there is a reprint that’s in the same ballpark: 1989’s classic Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom: Triumph And Torment, by Roger Stern and Mike Mignola.

Why is that not a Facsimile? Because, for the first time, the oversize graphic novel will be presented in standard comic-book format, and with a new cover by Peach Momoko.

Dig the solicitation info, which will be officially released by Marvel later this month:

Buncha thoughts:

— It’s unclear what the Mignola variant will be. Perhaps the original hardcover art…

… or the the original paperback art…

… or maybe something new?

— With Doom dominating these days, I’m still hoping we get 1981’s Fantastic Four #238 as a Facsimile before Avengers: Doomsday comes out in December.

— Hey, you should check out Pete Stone’s BURIED TREASURE column on Triumph and Torment. Link below!

Obligatory Price Comparison: An original hardcover in NM condition recently sold on eBay for $305. An original paperback in nice shape went for about $120. A 2013 trade paperback re-release in excellent condition sold for about $30.

  1. Why would you go with anything but Mignola cover art?

    • I felt the same way when Marvel was putting “Image style” art on classic reprints during the 1990s… total WTH.

  2. I’m excited and over the moon about the fact that they’re re-releasing this! But yeah, it’s going to be a “variant” cover for me

  3. The Doom facsimile I want most is Marvel Super-Heroes v2 20. They can do the full giant size with all the reprinted stories, or make it regular size with just the Doom story and some ads/text content. I’m good either way.
