MARVEL Adds Trio of Bronze Age EPIC COLLECTIONS to 2023 Roster

Perez! Byrne! The Korvac Saga! The Brood! MORE!

We’ve been pretty heavy on DC news and features of late, so it’s time to pay a visit to Marvel, which has added another three Bronze Age Epic Collections to its 2023 slate.

Dig these, based on Amazon listings:

AVENGERS EPIC COLLECTION: THE YESTERDAY QUEST

By Jim Shooter, David Michelinie, George Pérez and John Byrne

Writers Jim Shooter and David Michelinie and avenging artists George Pérez and John Byrne bring you the Avengers at their best! We begin with the cosmic “Korvac Saga” co-starring the Guardians of the Galaxy. Possessed by the Power Cosmic, Korvac seeks to create a utopia on Earth. His god-like power may mean the end to the Avengers—and everyone else on the planet! Then, bookending this volume, we have “The Yesterday Quest.” It’s storyline with deep revelations for the Scarlet Witch, including her first encounter with the evil power of the Darkhold. In between, new heroes join the team, battles with the Absorbing Man and Count Nefaria will shake your fillings and see why the Avengers will forever be called Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

COLLECTING: AVENGERS (1963) #167-188, ANNUAL (1967) 8-9 and material from MARVEL TALES (1966) #100

Due date: September 26, 2023

HAWKEYE EPIC COLLECTION: THE WAY OF THE ARROW

By Tom DeFalco, Roger Stern, Peter B. Gillis, Mark Bright, Ron Lim, Jackson “Butch” Guice

More classic tales starring the Avenging Archer, Hawkeye!

The true origin of Hawkeye! Everybody knows that young Clint Barton joined a traveling carnival, where he was taken under the wing of the Swordsman. But why did the legendary blade-wielder teach Clint archery? That’s where Trick Shot comes in — the one man Hawkeye hoped he would never see again! But now he’s back…and has issued a death challenge to his one-time protégé! Meanwhile, Hawkeye gets hired by Silver Sable and goes up against some of the Marvel Universe’s deadliest villains — the Red Skull, Doctor Octopus, the Abomination and…the Orb?! But Clint’s marital difficulties with Mockingbird aren’t helped when his old girlfriend, the Black Widow, calls for his aid! Plus, the solo spotlight turns to Clint’s fellow Avengers — including Moon Knight, the Scarlet Witch, She-Hulk, the Black Panther and Namor!

COLLECTING: Solo Avengers (1987) 1-20, Avengers Spotlight (1989) 21

Due date: October 10, 2023

496 pages

List price: $44.99

X-MEN EPIC COLLECTION: THE BROOD SAGA

By Chris Claremont, Dave Cockrum and Paul Smith

One of the most iconic X-Men arcs, the Brood Saga, collected in its entirety!

The complete Brood Saga, an X-Men extravaganza up there with the very best, is presented in this amazing Epic Collection. It’s storyline that blends space opera—with the X-Men, Starjammers and Shi’ar—and disgusting parasites from the outer limits with the Brood. Featuring art by X-icons Dave Cockrum and Paul Smith, it’s an action-packed adventure with a visual majesty that will leave you awed. Then, the X-Men encounter the darker side of the Marvel Universe in stories that pit them against Dracula and take them to Belasco’s mysterious Limbo realm. Chris Claremont crafts each story, and he tops it off with a character-defining tale that shows us Professor X and Magneto as allies before the philosophical fallout that would shape mutantkind’s future.

COLLECTING: UNCANNY X-MEN (1981) #154-167, X-MEN ANNUAL (1970) #6 and SPECIAL EDITION X-MEN (1983) #1

Due date: December 26, 2023.

424 pages

List price: $44.99

A few thoughts:

— That’s some big-time talent and some big-time stories right there.

— The covers have not been released, so I’ve picked representative art as placeholders.

Standard caveat: These have not been solicited by Marvel yet — as far as I can tell — so nothing is official until it’s official. Even then, things can change. Just keep coming to 13th Dimension for updates.
