Hey, hey, Comic Peeps!
Welcome to spring — things warm up, flowers bloom, conventions multiply! I just did my first convention of the season and the next month is full of more! I hope everyone gets to go to a convention or two this year, but even if you can’t, a visit to your local comic shop can be just as fun! Make sure to ask what your shop is doing for Free Comic Book Day on May 6! It’s the best day of the year!
Enough about that! On to the countdown (it’s not really a countdown):
First, Ghostbusters 101 #1 from IDW, Erik Burnham, Dan Schoening and Luis Antonio Delgado. This is a great crossover between the 1984 Ghostbusters movie, the newest movie, and the comic series. I’m a big fan of Burnham writing Ghostbusters (he is totally who I would call!) and I am loving this so far. This book puts all the bones into place for the series. More Holtzmann, please.

Marvel’s Unworthy Thor #5 by Jason Aaron and Olivier Coipel (and several others). Talk about the long game! I was ready to learn but not ready for the series to end. BUT, there are unanswered questions that hopefully await another series! Jason was at my shop when Thor #1 came out and I remember wanting to know what was whispered then. That seems like a lifetime ago! Kudos to the whole team on this — I’m super impressed.

Finally, Heavy Metal’s The Doorman TP from Eliot Rahal, Daniel Kibblesmith, Kendall Goode and David B. Cooper. I loved this book as a monthly series and I love it as a trade. This is a super-fun read with great art. I usually don’t buy trades when I own the single issues of something unless it’s really special. I own both of The Doorman. Check it out! You won’t be disappointed. Well, except that there isn’t more!

Lightning Round. Marvel’s Iron Fist #1 by Ed Brisson, Mike Perkins and Andy Troy. And before you think it, no, I haven’t finished the Netflix series yet. This is a fun read with art by one of the best around! … Curse Words #3 from Image, Charles Soule, and Ryan Browne. This book continues to be a favorite and I am SO #teammargaret. … DC’s Scooby-Doo Team-Up #24 by Sholly Fisch, Dario Brizuela and Franco Riesco has Martian Manhunter in it. Maybe even TWO of them…
I also need to mention Tales from the Crypt #2, which features a story by yours truly and amazing art by Miran Kim called Undertow. Amazingly, my name is on a cover next to Bernie Wrightson’s. Last week, Bernie passed away leaving a hole in the comics community. RIP Bernie. Thank you for all you gave us, for being nice to everyone you met, and for being you.
On that note, keep reading comics and be kind to each other.
Toodle-Pip!
