DC in October will celebrate the 30th anniversary year of Mark Waid and Alex Ross’ 1996 classic Kingdom Come with a run of eight variant covers across eight separate series.
Some of comics’ top talent is taking part — but not Ross. (Maybe because he’s neck deep in his upcoming Marvel Dimensions project.)
Anyway, here are six of the nifty covers, by the likes of Dustin Nguyen, David Nakayama and Jenny Frison. (Two have yet to be revealed.)

Oh man. I got all excited until I realized that it wasn’t actually Alex Ross covers.
Yeah, he must be really swamped with other projects right now. Which is good to hear that he’s at no loss for work.

There’s something peculiar going on between DC and Alex. He’s painted a couple of beautiful pieces featuring DC characters that were sold by Sideshow as prints, but DC didn’t use them for anything. He’s been selling Timeless style cover issues through his site; DC isn’t selling them, he’s doing it himself. He had a gorgeous JLA/JSA sketch in a sketchbook, dream image, DC apparently didn’t want it. I wonder what’s happened? All these covers really should have been done by him. He’s done with the Marvel project now…why isn’t DC hiring him?

They should all have been done by Ross. What’s going on with DC and Ross? He’s done prints of DC characters for sale by Sideshow, but DC isn’t using them at all for covers. He’s been selling “Timeless” style DC covers through his site; DC isn’t selling them. I’m not pleased at all that DC is not hiring him to do work for them at this point.
