EXCLUSIVE: A comics landmark gets the full-on reprint treatment in January 2026…
DC is kicking off 2026 in grand fashion on the Facsimile Edition front. We already know about the return of the much-sought-after Superman vs. Spider-Man treasury (and Marvel joining in with the Amalgam Comics Spider-Boy Team-Up #1, as well).
But there are going to be five more Facsimiles in January, as DC continues to push its popular program. You can read about the other four here, because below we’re putting a special spotlight on the most exciting selection: Jack Kirby’s landmark The New Gods #1, first published at the end of 1970.

— Hey, DC while you’re still planning things, how about a variant with the unused cover for Showcase #94, which was originally supposed to feature the story? Readers would snap them up! (Suggested by retired Back Issue editor Michael Eury!)

Now we’re talking! I will snatch this up. I have never read any of the New Gods material, and I can’t wait to get this taste. My introduction to Darkseid was in the Levitz/Giffen’s Great Darkness Saga in the 80’s. So excited to see one of the key inspirations for that.
