Illustrated History of AMERICAN MOVIE COMIC BOOKS Slated for 2025

EXCLUSIVE: Our pal PETER BOSCH has a sequel to his terrific AMERICAN TV COMICS…

Marvel’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, by Jack Kirby (with inks by Frank Giacoia), 1976.

Our pal Peter Bosch, one of 13th Dimension’s most prolific contributors, has a new book coming from TwoMorrows Publishing in 2025: American Movie Comic Books (1930s-1970s), a sequel to his outstanding American TV Comic Books (1940s-1980s).

Dig the official description:

AMERICAN MOVIE COMIC BOOKS (1930s–1970s)

In AMERICAN MOVIE COMIC BOOKS (1930s-1970s), author PETER BOSCH continues his remarkable history of Hollywood’s ongoing love affair with comic books. The sequel to AMERICAN TV COMIC BOOKS, this new book looks at hundreds of Tinseltown’s motion pictures that made the jump from the silver screen to the comics page, starting from the days of Charlie Chaplin and continuing through to the wonders of Steven Spielberg. Along with comics story pages from the industry’s greatest talents—including JACK KIRBY, RUSS MANNING, AL WILLIAMSON, FRANK FRAZETTA, ALEX TOTH, DAN SPIEGLE, WALLACE WOOD, STEVE DITKO, JOHN BUSCEMA, GEORGE PÉREZ, and WALTER SIMONSON (to name just a few!)—you will discover full-color photo covers, posters, original art, and much more!

It’s the ultimate reference for films from the Thirties to the Seventies that were adapted to comics, including The Wizard of Oz, Ben-Hur, Around the World in 80 Days, Disney’s cinema classics and animated movies, Yellow Submarine, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Star Wars, Alien, Planet of the Apes series, and many others. Don’t miss this blockbuster, perfect for anyone who enjoys movies and comics alike!

A few thoughts:

American Movie Comics, a 192-page, full-color paperback, lists for $31.95 and has a sale date of May 28, 2025. (Subject to change.) It will be available through comics shops and booksellers but you can already pre-order it directly from TwoMorrows. Click here. Peter’s first book, which came out in 2022, is also still available through TwoMorrows — click here to order — and elsewhere.

American TV Comics is superb and gets my highest recommendation. Peter is a meticulous researcher and has a gift for bringing the obscure-but-wonderful into the light where it belongs. He lives in Hollywood and is a walking encyclopedia of comics, TV and movies. I can’t wait for this.

— In fact, I “met” Peter through his promotion of the first book and he’s been with us ever since! 13th Dimension wouldn’t be the same without him. Buy his books!

  1. I realize this volume has yet to be released but will Peter be doing a second volume of movie comics from 1980+?
