Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Detective Comics #1102, DC. Batman is Batman with Tim Drake Robin showing up. Batman and Robin co-stars Damian. This arc of Detective, by regulars Tom Taylor and Mikel Janin, is taking the Brave and the Bold approach, with DCU guest stars, like Mr. Terrific. I really liked the first issue of the arc.

Also worth noting is that Greg Smallwood is doing a series of wraparound covers for the arc. I’ve long said that Smallwood is one of those artists I’d want to see on Batman full-time. Still, I wish these were horizontal fronts rather than wraparounds. But hey, that’s just me!

Action Comics #252 Facsimile Edition, DC. The Supergirl movie hype begins! Plus, the first appearance of Metallo! With foil and sketch variants.

—
All-Negro Comics: America’s First Black Comic Book, Image. A trade paperback edition of the Eisner-winning hardcover. Includes the original 1947 issue — created by an all-Black staff, with the aim of rejecting grotesque stereotypes — remastered, along with essays and new stories, by contemporary talent. One of comics’ important landmarks, preserved for generations to come.

—
Futuristic: Rockets, Robots and Rayguns of Space Age Pop Culture, TwoMorrows. Mark Voger’s marvelously illustrated retro pop-culture histories are always on the money. Immensely entertaining and informative. You cannot go wrong. A perfect holiday season gift. Really, I love his books.

—
The X-Men #140 Facsimile Edition, Marvel. Wraps up this year’s run of X-Men Facsimiles, which have us the Dark Phoenix Saga and its immediate aftermath. We’ll know more about Marvel’s extended 2026 plans soon; my money’s on a run of The Amazing Spider-Man: Brand New Day, cuz it’s damn obvious coming after Civil War and timed to the next Tom Holland flick called… Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

DC Finest: Events — Crisis on Infinite Earths Part One, DC. It’s going to be fun to re-read Crisis with all the crossover issues for the first time in many a year.

—
New History of the DC Universe #4, DC. I’ll admit, this is the chapter of DC history I’m least familiar with, so I look forward to it getting the Waid treatment.

—
Justice League Unlimited #12, DC. Can’t get enough Mr. Terrific these days.

—
Marvel Masterworks: The Tomb of Dracula Vol. 5, Marvel. Dracula versus Doctor Strange! Dracula versus the Silver Surfer! These Wolfman/Colan classics are freshly restored.
