HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

Limited Collectors’ Edition #C-23 Facsimile Edition, DC. Oh, hooray! Another treasury Facsimile Edition! You can get the details here — but hey, the cover’s been recolored. The LCE #C-37 Facsimile, the Batman villains ish, also appeared to be recolored, with a more washed-out purple. I can only speculate why. Side note: There’s a foil cover for this one.

Batman: Dark Patterns #11, DC. Only two issues left. I would love a return run from Dan Watters and Hayden Sherman. First rate.

Batman and Robin #26, DC. I read the first issue of the new arc during my September sampling. Definitely deserves a continued look.

Batman: The Long Halloween — The Last Halloween #9, DC. The penultimate issue. I’ve completely forgotten what’s happening in this story, but that’s OK. This whole thing has been an artist’s showcase. This month, it’s Chris Samnee.

Batman: Arkham Asylum — Living Hell Deluxe Edition, DC. A lot of Batman this week, huh? This collects the forgotten 2003 miniseries by Dan Slott and Ryan Sook about Warren White, a white-collar criminal who decides to plead insanity to avoid prison. Bad idea. Good story.

Batman ’89: Echoes HC, DC. OK, Dimensioneers, tell me: Is this good? I didn’t love the first miniseries but the idea of Madonna as Harley Quinn is inspired.

Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum #3, DC. A Superman-Captain Marvel team-up like no other.

Action Comics #1091, DC. Mark Waid has a good handle on Clark Kent’s Superboy years. That’s not a surprise at all, is it?

Fantastic Four #10 Facsimile Edition, Marvel. The return of Doctor Doom! Mr. Fantastic goes rogue! Stan and Jack show up!

The Avengers #31 Luciano Vecchio Muppets Variant Cover, Marvel. It’s Janice as Cap that really makes it.

Scott Tipton, contributor-at-large, 13th Dimension

The Wind in the Willows, IDW. I’ve been waiting for this for years. Illustrations by David Petersen, the creator of Mouse Guard.

Harley Quinn x Elvira #1, Dynamite/DC. Anytime Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti return to Harley Quinn, I’m on board.

Dan adds: A lot of covers for this one. Check out our pal Bill Morrison’s.

The Amazing Spider-Man: Torn #1, Marvel. A new tale from Spidey’s college years, from writer J. Michael Straczynski! Five-issue miniseries, with art by Pere Perez. Adam Hughes cover here.

Dan adds: College Spidey is the best Spidey.

Laura Kinney: Sabretooth #1, Marvel. A new beginning for Laura Kinney, with art from Elena Casagrande!

Author: Dan Greenfield

The first new Marvel (outside of facsimile runs) I’ve purchased in years! Don’t get the title “Torn” but I’m hoping it is done well.
