Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Superman Treasury 2025: Hero for All, DC. This is what we’ve been waiting for! DC’s first all-new treasury/tabloid edition in decades — written by Dan Jurgens with art by the fab Bruno Redondo. Can. Not. Wait. The movie’s coming out this week — it’s SUPERMAN WEEK here at 13th Dimension, don’tcha know — so this is wonderful (obvious) timing. Big-screen comics! I am all over it. Variant watch: There’s a virgin foil edition, one by Dan Jurgens, a wraparound by Scott Koblish, and a movie cover. (Also: It looks like they’ve altered the main cover from when it was first announced. I have theories.)

Action Comics #1088, DC. I know I’ve mentioned this before, but I’ve never been much of a Superboy fan. The concept has always been a hair too far to allow me to suspend my disbelief — and I know how stupid that sounds considering we’re talking about a world where people can fly and whatnot. But so many holes!
Nevertheless, I do appreciate the nostalgia of it, and I was curious what Mark Waid would do, so I picked up the first part. I dug it — and am looking forward to what’s up next. Doesn’t mean I’m a Superboy fan forevermore but I’m good to play in Smallville for awhile. Nice interior art by Skylar Patridge.

Supergirl #3, DC. I really enjoyed the first two issues. I heard the series was influenced by the Silver Age, and it is. Bronze Age too! Opinions, please, but be cool about it: I’m reading Supergirl, Krypto and Action with Superboy. Yet, I’ve no real interest in reading the main Superman title or Superman Unlimited. I would love recommendations if you got ’em!

DC W.I.P.: All-Star Superman #1, DC. The publisher launches its new line, which presents single issues a la Artist’s Editions — the original art in whopping 11″ x 17″ size. Definitely want to see that Frank Quitely art all big-like. Boy it really is SUPERMAN WEEK, isn’t it?
—
Batman: Dark Patterns #8, DC. Terrific series. Wish it were an ongoing. Then again, I think that would inhibit a lot of what’s so appealing about it.
—
Fantastic Four #7 Facsimile Edition, Marvel. These have been so much fun to read. Better than I expected. But then I shouldn’t be surprised at all, should I?
—
Fantastic Four #1, Marvel. A new series in time for that other Big Time Superhero Movie this month! There are a gajillion covers too, like this Alex Ross homage to 1966’s Fantastic Four #49.
—
Savage Sword of Conan #9, Titan. Cover by the late, great Neal Adams! Plus there’s a virgin variant of this too!
—
Miles Morales: Spider-Man #35, Marvel. Love the cover by Federico Vicentini. Reminds me of this.

Scott Tipton, contributor-at-large, 13th Dimension
DC Finest: Justice Society of America: The Plunder of the Psycho-Pirate, DC. More of the original comics super-team’s earliest adventures! Stories by the legendary Gardner Fox.
—
Superman: The Last Days of Lex Luthor, DC. I missed this Mark Waid/Bryan Hitch project when it was published as a Black Label miniseries a couple years back, and I need to catch up.
—
Marvel Swimsuit Special: Friends, Foes & Rivals, Marvel. I’m glad to see this return; it was always a fun summer tradition for Marvel.
—
Micronauts Epic Collection: The Original Marvel Years — They Came From Inner Space, Marvel. I’m all for Bill Mantlo’s Micronauts being republished in every format possible.

I gotta say, I’m a little thrown with two parallel Facsimile runs mixing together. Not that I’m complaining about having them on the market–the release schedule is a little weird when you view it together. Like, I’ve just read FF #6, then #50, and now #7 this week.
(The Batman facsimilies are even goofier, since in the course of this year, we’ve gotten #608-619, #9, and the upcoming #655 and #635. To a collector, it’s fine, but imagine being a kid trying to read them in release order!)

Dan and I just debated the pros and cons of over priced Alex Ross covers and here Marvel has one for FF #1. This I will get for the “artwork” aspect and what’s sweet is it’s a normal price. Will be really nice if the story inside works too.
Now if I can only find someone selling the Conan with the Adams’ cover.

Is this a TPB of the Lex Luthor or a reprint of Issue 1?

My only interest in the Superboy stories would be if three teenagers from the future show up.
