Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension
Supergirl #2, DC. I picked up the first issue because I saw it compared to the Silver Age — and I really dug it! It’s early days but this series has a chance to fill the void left by the dearly departed Metamorpho. Not as funny, but certainly sweet and charming, with plenty of Silver and Bronze Age references. Delightful art by Sophie Campbell, who also writes. (An in-house interview with Campbell in the first ish notes her affinity for Cary Bates, et al.)

Batman #9 Facsimile Edition, DC. One of the all-time great covers gets the Facsimile treatment. Love it. Also in foil- and sketch-cover varieties.

Sketch cover, natch
—
Batman: Dark Patterns #9, DC. The third of four arcs begins as early-days Batman takes on… the Red Hood Gang. Best Batman comic on the stands and I’m not looking forward to this limited series’ end.
—
Fantastic Four #6 Facsimile Edition, Marvel. These early issues have been a hoot. I know I’m the last old-school comics fan who’s never read them, but what can I tell you. In #6, Doctor Doom, introduced last ish, teams up with the Sub-Mariner, who returned the ish before that. The FF world is building. Gotta say, though: Ben Grimm started out as a petulant dick.
—
Aquaman #6, DC. The next George Perez ’80s postcard variant cover features the Swift and Powerful Monarch of the Ocean. Oh, and if you’re reading this Monday, it’s the late Perez’s birthday! Check out some Perez postcard variants that we’d love to see.

Back Issue #159, TwoMorrows. Speaking of George Perez, TwoMorrows’ special Crisis 40th anniversary issue hits shops this week, thanks to the company’s new deal with Lunar Distribution. Click here for a SNEAK PEEK. A raft of other TwoMorrows mags will be out too, including Alter Ego #193 and Comic Book Creator #38.
—
Mad #44, DC. A Superman special, featuring new and vintage material, including a cover and fresh gag by our pal Kerry Callen! Click here for a SNEAK PEEK.
—
Marvel United: A Pride Special #1, Marvel. Last week was DC’s version, now it’s Marvel’s turn. Fly the flags! The Luciano Vecchio variant is especially powerful.
—
The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries Vol. 6 TPB, DC. I miss this comic.
—
Batman: Madness — A Legends of the Dark Knight Halloween Special #1, Facsimile Edition. A PSA that this is out this week!

The DC Universe by Steve Ditko Omnibus, DC. Hawk and Dove! Shade the Changing Man! The Creeper! All of Ditko’s DC work in one volume!
Dan adds: I can’t say I loved all of Ditko’s DC work, but I am a huge fan of the Creeper and Hawk and Dove!
—
Action Comics #1087, DC. Mark Waid begins his tales of Superboy in Smallville!
Dan adds: Yeah, I’m looking forward to this. I’ve never been a huge Superboy fan — I’ve always gone with the “Clark became Superman as an adult” concept — but I have a lot of faith in what Mark Waid will do. He’s a master at getting you to suspend your disbelief, even when it’s stretched.
—
Marvel Masterworks: Daredevil Vol. 19, Marvel. Always in the shadow of Frank Miller’s legendary Daredevil run, I feel like Denny O’Neil’s stint on the title is sorely overlooked.
—
Runaways #1, Marvel. The Runaways are back! A 5-issue mini from writer Rainbow Rowell and artist Elena Casagrande!
