HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

Batman and Robin: Year One #2, DC. Great start last issue by Mark Waid and Chris Samnee. Eagerly anticipating the follow-up.

Batman and Robin: Year One #1 — Noir Edition, DC. And while you’re at it, pick up the black-and-white version of the debut ish. Samnee’s monochromatic Batman is magnificent.

Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #33, DC. Even as a Batman fan par excellence, it still strikes me as weird that Batman gets top billing. They did it during the 1960s Batmania too and it was just as strange. Anyway, more Eclipso!

Crisis on Infinite Earths #8 Facsimile Edition, DC. Looking forward to seeing this cover in foil. That scarlet!

Nice, bright sketch cover, too:

The Amazing Spider-Man #262 Facsimile Edition, Marvel. Ah, the famed photo cover.

Action Comics #1076, DC. Oh man, do I dig that McFarlane Toys Super Powers variant.

Peanuts For Everybody and You’re the Greatest, Charlie Brown, Titan. The latest two Facsimile Edition paperbacks. More for the Chanukah list.

Scott Tipton, columnist, 13th Dimension

Absolute Justice, DC. A sprawling epic JLA tale from Jim Krueger and Alex Ross that often gets overlooked. A favorite. (New edition.)

DC Finest: Justice League of America- The Bridge Between Earths, DC. How often do you see the original Mr. Terrific on a cover of a collected edition? Never, that’s how often. I’m buyin’ it for that alone.

Dan adds: Really cool period for the League (and the JSA when it pops up). Collects Issues #45-72, from 1966 to 1969.

Marvel Masterworks: Werewolf by Night Vol. 3, Marvel. I must confess, I’m not that familiar with Marvel’s ’70s horror output. May be time to change that.

Avengers Assemble #3, Marvel. Gotta say, I’m loving seeing these old-school Avengers back in the spotlight.

  1. “Crisis on Infinite Earths #8” is the one definite buy. Got my (4) copies ordered. I might put in for “BATMAN & Robin Year One”….was thinking I’d just wait on the TPB but it was such a fun read. My early JLA is covered already or I’d for sure would get that one. Though my favorite span of the JLA starts in the late ‘90-100s numbering. I especially love the covers of that early ‘70s era.

  2. DC Finest JLA is on my pickup list. It fills the gap between my JLA Silver Age TPBs and my JLA Bronze Age Omnibuses.

I will rarely buy the same thing twice…so, I will deal with the different formats.
