Batman: The Long Halloween — The Last Halloween #0, DC. One of the year’s two most anticipated Bat-series — the other is Batman and Robin: Year One — kinda-sorta kicks off on Sept. 21’s Batman Day 2024. This issue, which is expected to be in shops Wednesday, reprints 2021’s The Long Halloween Special, which was Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale’s last collaboration. The issue was intended to be the beginning of a new story but, sadly, Sale died in 2022. Now, different artists will be tag-teaming the 10-part series, which kicks off in earnest Sept. 25, with art by Eduardo Risso.

Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #31, DC. Have I mentioned recently how much I love Eclipso? I have? Well, that’s OK. I’m going to mention it again, because he takes center stage in the next WF arc. Whee!
Plus, don’t forget there’s a Batman 85th anniversary variant by Dave Johnson that homages Neal Adams’ Batman #251 cover, as well as 1989’s Batman flick. (That Joker illo is technically not Jack Nicholson, evidently, because of likeness rights. But, c’mon, who are they kidding?)

Superman: The Triangle Era Omnibus Vol. 1, DC. I haven’t seen Superman fans this excited for a release in a very long time. I expect it will sell well, and rightfully so.
—
Detective Comics #27 Facsimile Edition, DC. Another Batman Day comic, it’s a new printing of the ‘Tec #27 Facsimile — but in full Golden Age dimensions. There are sketch and foil variants, too. (Also expected in stores Wednesday.)
—
Batman by Grant Morrison Book 1, DC. Morrison’s run has been collected many times, with this trade paperback series just the latest. Thing is, the more time passes, the more I’ve come to recognize that it’s the best Batman run — when you include Batman and Robin, The Return of Bruce Wayne and Batman Incorporated — since the Bronze Age. Not at all perfect but the highs are very high.
Scott adds: A great, affordable way to get in on the ground floor of one of the best modern Batman runs.
—
The Amazing Spider-Man #260 Facsimile Edition, Marvel. More Black Suit Spidey madness. Spider-Man thinks the symbiote is out of his life. Boy, is he wrong. Plus, Hobgoblin!
—
The Incredible Hulk Epic Collection: Man or Monster? Marvel. A new printing of the Epic collecting the earliest Hulk adventures. Big, green (and gray) building blocks of the Marvel Age.
—
Catwoman #68 Variant Cover, DC. Nicola Scott’s got a bunch of these “through the years” covers this month. This is one of my faves since there’s such a wide variety of Catwoman looks.
—
Crisis on Infinite Earths #6 Facsimile Edition, DC. At last — the ANTI-MONITOR! Also with foil and blank covers.

Jay Garrick: The Flash, DC Comics. A great miniseries for the Golden Age speedster from Flash scribe Jeremy Adams and artist Diego Olortegui. (Cover by Jorge Corona.) Pick this trade paperback up if you missed it!
—
Dazzler #1 (of 4), Marvel. Dazzler on a world tour with Strong Guy and Multiple Man in the road crew? I’m in.
—
The Micronauts: The Original Marvel Years Omnibus, Vol. 2, Marvel. I still can’t believe we have beautiful hardcover collections of both Rom and Micronauts. My cup runneth over.

The production on that ‘Tec #27 facsimile is something to behold! Not only the golden age dimensions, but the paper stock and even “bleedthrough” from the other side of the page really makes this feel like an artifact from the past!
