Hey, you mighta heard that there’s a big ol’ eclipse Monday. Of course, that means it’s time to celebrate the greatest eclipse-based character in all of comicdom — ECLIPSO! Check out 13 ECLIPSO COVERS below. Then click here for an EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT from our pal Jim Beard’s new Brave and the Bold guidebook, Breaking Bold and Brave, highlighting Batman’s infamous showdown with the “hero and villain in one man”!

I’ve loved Eclipso ever since I got The Brave and the Bold #64 in a stack of back issues given to me by my parents’ friends, the Sperlings. Even then, at the age of about 5, I thought it was weird that Batman was spanking a woman (not to mention making out with her in a different scene). But Eclipso himself? He was downright scary. (He’s also largely responsible for me giving any villain I created an “o” at the end of their name. “Inviso,” for example, was an invisible bad guy who bedeviled my Mego Batman and Robin.)
13th Dimension columnist Jim Beard has a groovy piece on that issue over here, but I also wanted to bring you 13 ECLIPSO COVERS, mostly from his days as a feature in the Silver Age House of Secrets (he was co-created in 1963 by writer Bob Haney and artist Lee Elias). You’ll also find a splash page by Alex Toth. (Alex Toth!)
Far out!

Thanks so much for this! I loved Eclipso when I read the reprints (and then-new stories) when I was in Jnr/Snr High School in the 70s. Loved the Metal Men team-up (with Umbra!) Glad you did this for this fantastic day!

Neat looking covers. Those Eclipso, Prince Ra-Man stories need to be reprinted in color.
Why does Eclipsp have a normal looking face on that Batman coloring book?
Is he supposed to be in transition phase?
