HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

Our Army at War #81 Facsimile Edition, DC. I really love that DC has been giving is Facsimile Editions that stray from superheroes. This issue, here in time for Memorial Day at the end of the month, features the first appearance of Sgt. Rock. Fun fact: Robert Kanigher didn’t write it and Joe Kubert didn’t draw it. Instead, it was Bob Haney, Ross Andru and Mike Esposito. There’s back story.

Secret Wars #5 Facsimile Edition, Marvel. I’m so glad I had no real knowledge of Secret Wars other than the toys and that hardcore fans tend to really dislike it. With no expectations, it’s a total hoot. Bickering Good Guys vs. Bickering Bad Guys on a grand scale. Comics are supposed to be fun, kids! (Oh, and go check out Fred Van Lente’s latest COMIC BOOK DEATH MATCH, pitting this ish against Crisis on Infinite Earths #5!)

The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries #5, DC. Man-Bat makes the scene!

Batman ’66 Wave 10 6-Inch Action Figures, McFarlane Toys. The new wave goes up for preorder Wednesday at various online retailers and there are at least four groovy selections — Space Batman (from the comic), Nightwing (comic), Alfred (from the show — finally!) and Bookworm (show). I’m in for all four. There was also word that a “Wax Robin” would be in this wave (likely from this Joker episode) but McFarlane hasn’t shown it yet, so we’ll see what happens when the pre-sale goes live Wednesday.

Scott Tipton, columnist, 13th Dimension

The Boy Wonder #1, DC Comics. I’ve never been the biggest Damian Wayne fan, but this art by Juni Ba is intriguing.

Dan adds: Dig the Cliff Chiang variant:

Lockjaw: Avengers Assemble TPB, Marvel. I think a “Pet Avengers/Legion of Super-Pets” crossover is long overdue.

Fantastic Four #20, Marvel. Alex Ross has been killing it on Fantastic Four covers lately.
