HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

Green Lantern #87 Facsimile Edition, DC. A landmark issue in comics history and a linchpin of the epic Denny O’Neil/Neal Adams run: John Stewart’s first appearance. The back-up? The classic Green Arrow solo story What Can One Man Do? written by Elliot S! Maggin. (Both inked by the great Dick Giordano.) Plus a Fox/Kane/Anderson Silver Age reprint. Brilliant from cover to cover. There’s also a sketch cover and a foil edition. Yes, to all three versions. Obligatory Price Comparison: An unslabbed, high-grade original copy recently sold on eBay for about $520.

Nightwing #111, DC. Hey did you hear the news? Bruno Redondo is returning to Nightwing interiors with Issue #114, for a five-part arc. The sad part? That’ll be Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo’s final story. Damn, I will miss them. Really, really miss them. I still think Dick and Babs are gonna get married, by the way. Anyway, this week’s ish features a Batman appearance. That’s always fun. (Incredible cover by Redondo.)

Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #24, DC. Riddle me this: How is Batman holding Superman back?

The Amazing Spider-Man #253, Marvel. Reprinting the first appearance of the rose — and the second appearance of the black costume.

Titans #8, DC. I didn’t read Beast World and this deals with the aftermath. Looking forward to what’s next.

Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong #5 Michael Cho Variant Cover, DC. Beauteous.

The Jaguar #1, Archie. I’m so glad they keep trying to keep the Mighty Crusaders heroes alive. A one-shot.

Scott Tipton, contributor-at-large, 13th Dimension

Daredevil Epic Collection: A Woman Called Widow, Marvel. A new printing. I’ve read very little from this period of West Coast Daredevil. Looking forward to diving in.

Guardians of the Galaxy Annual #1, Marvel. Is that Star-Lord? When did he start dressing like Wesley Dodds?

Marvel Masterworks: Invincible Iron Man Vol. 17, Marvel. A great pick here for Rhodey fans, collecting James Rhodes’ first stint in the Iron Man armor.

  1. I bought that ASM 253 when it came out. I had to have a look at the new costume, and this was the issue available at the time. Wasn’t bad and it did go some way to explaining the costume.
