HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Scott Tipton, contributor-at-large, 13th Dimension

The Super Hero’s Journey, Abrams ComicArts. I have long been a huge fan of Patrick McDonnel’s Mutts, so I can’t resist seeing his take on the Marvel Universe.

Batgirl: Year One, DC. Back when I had my comics shop, we used to sell this book all day, every day. Glad to see it back in print.

Batman: The Golden Age Omnibus Vol. 10, DC. Featuring the debut of the legendary Ace the Bat-Hound!

Dan adds: The last in the Batman: Golden Age Omnibus series. But worry not, they’re starting over again at Vol. 1 — this week!

Avengers Epic Collection: The Yesterday Quest, Marvel. The Korvac Saga! Art by Byrne and Perez! How can you resist!

Micronauts #1 Facsimile Edition, Marvel. A little sneak preview for the uninitiated before the Micronauts Omnibus hits next year!

Dan adds: There’s also a foil variant — and this groovy sketch variant:

So cool.

Miracleman Original Epic, Marvel. Alan Moore’s legendary take on the Shazam!/Marvelman mythology was shocking in its day; it will be interesting to read it again and see how it holds up.

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

The Flash #105 Facsimile Edition, DC. The first issue of Barry Allen’s original solo series after his successful run in Showcase. A must-have…

The Flash #1, DC. … and it’s timed to the start of a new Flash series. That new logo is kinda nifty — but also kinda weird: The Flash, of all characters, is standing still!

Tales of the Titans: Donna Troy, DC. This mini features different creative teams and it’s been a little uneven. Nevertheless, I’m in because Wonder Girl is one of my all-time favorite heroes. And, yes, I still call her Wonder Girl. And so should you. And so should DC. Or if “Girl” is too dated, then… something. Just not Troia. And also? Terry Long on the cover! Oh no!

  1. Curious about Dan’s comment regarding the Batman Golden Age omnis: “But worry not, they’re starting over again at Vol. 1 — this week!” Really? This isn’t just a standalone third printing of the first volume? You know for a fact DC will be releasing new printings of the other volumes that came after #1?
