HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

The Batman Adventures Omnibus, DC. Coming out the same day as the show’s anniversary, this omnibus collects the entire original comics series, plus stories such as Mad Love and the never-before-reprinted adaptation of Batman: Mask of the Phantasm.

Betty & Veronica Jumbo Comics Digest #317, Archie. It’s the first full week of September. Time for Archie to break out the fall colors!

Superman ’78/Batman ’89 Box Set, DC. Packaged together a la an old-school VHS tape. This set was originally believed to be a pair of trade paperbacks. Looks like they’re hardcovers now. By the way, in case you missed it, sequels for each series are on the way.

Scott Tipton, contributor-at-large, 13th Dimension

Birds of Prey #1, DC. I always like Big Barda better when she’s separated from the rest of the New Gods folk, so I’ll have to give this a look.

Fire & Ice: Welcome to Smallville #1, DC. More JLI love in the DCU these days. Plus I can’t resist a Terry Dodson cover.

Justice Society of America #6, DC. Check out that All-Star Squadron tribute cover!

Mighty Marvel Masterworks: The Incredible Hulk Vol. 3 — Less Monster, More Man, Marvel. These Silver Age Lee/Kirby Hulk tales were some gleefully crazy comics. (Plus, Bill Everett, John Buscema and Gil Kane!)

  1. I wish Amazon would offer the covers for the Marvel Masterworks as the ones always advertised here. I hate the modern twist covers. If they show the artwork of the actual comics you can tell what thread is covered. At least give us a choice of covers….let the market decide.
