HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

World’s Finest: Teen Titans #2, DC. The first issue was exactly what I was hoping for — including an appearance by the disgusting and hilarious Separated Man from the team’s first official appearance in 1965’s The Brave and the Bold #60. This issue features the return of a ’70s favorite who’s always had a bit of an identity crisis.

Also, dig Doc Shaner’s character variant. Ginchy! I’m collecting these:

The Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus Vol. 4, Marvel. This volume includes the beginning of Gerry Conway’s seminal run on the series — which I consider he best ever. The edition collects ASM #105-142, plus Giant-Size Super-Heroes #1 and Marvel Super-Heroes #14. That means, the Death of Gwen Stacy, the debut of the Punisher, Harry Osborn’s descent into madness as the second Green Goblin, among other great stories. In other words, this $125 hardcover is worth its weight in web-fluid.

The Avengers: War Against Time, Marvel. Paul Levitz — making his Marvel debut — and Alan Davis’ fabulous tribute to the Silver and Bronze Age Avengers is a must-read and a must-own. One of the most fun comics I’ve read in years, all in a nice trade-paperback package.

Michael Golden’s Marvel Stories Artist’s Edition, IDW/Marvel. Michael Golden’s latest Artist’s Edition, which includes work on The ‘Nam, Marvel Fanfare, Doctor Strange and much more. Plus, covers aplenty!

Werewolf by Night #33, Marvel. Continuing Moon Knight’s first appearance. (Side note: I just started reading Moench and Sienkiewicz’s classic run. You know why? I’ve never read it before! It’s true! Better late than never, I always say.)

The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries #11, DC. Oracle takes center stage in this one, the series’ penultimate issue. I’m not certain there will be a third volume of this series, but it’s been a lot of sweet fun while it’s lasted.

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi: Max Rebo #1, Marvel. Now, I think I really have seen everything. Max Rebo (!) gets his own one-shot!

That’s all, folks! The peripatetic Scott Tipton is off again this week. See ya next time!
