HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

The Amazing Spider-Man #129 Facsimile Edition, Marvel. This has been at the top of my Facsimile Edition wish list for the longest time — it’s the only gap in my personal ’70s Spidey run. I’ll never be able to afford an original, so this is the next best thing. Far out!

Whiz Comics #2 Facsimile Edition, DC. Another must-have. I believe this is the first full-on, color reprint (including ads, backup stories and whatnot) of Whiz Comics #2 since 1974’s treasury-size Famous 1st Edition #F-4.

Scott adds: One of the simplest and most iconic superhero origins of all time. Can’t resist it.

Hulk: Grand Design Treasury Edition, Marvel. Jim Rugg’s homage gets the Treasury Edition treatment. Neat.

Scott Tipton, contributor-at-large, 13th Dimension

Superman #1, DC Comics. I could use a fresh jumping-on point for the Superman books. This looks to be a good one.

Namor the Sub-Mariner Epic Collection: Who Strikes for Atlantis?, Marvel. A passel of never-before-reprinted Namor stories from Marvel legends Roy Thomas, Marie Severin and John Buscema! Plus, the Serpent Crown!

  1. The amazing Spider-Man facsimile would be from marvel wouldn’t it not DC?

  2. I like that 1940-esque “Superman” logo on that cover. Though I like the 1983 lettering the most, it’s nice of DC to revert back to the lettering that Ira Schnapp made.

  3. The Whiz facsimile will include “Gangway for Captain Marvel” on the cover? Didn’t see that one coming!

  4. The Sub-Mariner Epic Collection deserves a shout out, but the issues aren’t “never-before-reprinted.” They were released in Masterworks hardcovers. Granted, those volumes were published years ago and are long out of print. This is, however, the first time they’re being reprinted in softcover.

    • Indeed. I meant to say “in an affordable format.” Thanks for the correction!
