HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

Scott’s off this week so it’s just me flying solo. Strap in!

Fantastic Four: Full Circle, Marvel/Abrams ComicArts. This is it: the year’s most anticipated book and one that is likely to get heaped with Eisner nominations next year. Alex Ross pays tribute to the King with a wildly vibrant adventure of Marvel’s First Family. (Oh, and click here for Ross’ ranking of the TOP 13 JACK KIRBY FANTASTIC FOUR COVERS.)

Amazing Fantasy #1000, Marvel. I still think Marvel’s whole Issue #1000 schtick is silly and now it’s just gotten old. But that nitpick aside, this is a big ol’ 60-year celebration of the publisher’s best character by a broad range of big-name creators, including Neil Gaiman, Dan Slott, Jonathan Hickman, Michael Cho and a cast of millions.

Alter Ego #177, TwoMorrows. Don Perlin is the cover story but there’s also a terrific feature on the disaster that was the Marvelmania International fan club. NOTE: This and Back Issue #138 (below) are due Aug. 31 but check with your local shop because dates can vary. You can also order both directly through TwoMorrows, though. Click here.

Back Issue #138, TwoMorrows. All about classic heroes like Flash Gordon and Zorro in the Bronze Age. The cover artist is technically unidentified but it’s likely by the great George Wilson. (It was originally the cover of Gold Key’s 1979 Flash Gordon #25.)

  1. Yes, out of all the picks of the week, this is certainly four of them.
