HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

Once again, I’m solo this week. Scott’s been enjoying San Diego Comic-Con. Let’s get to it, shall we?

Superman: Space Age #1, DC. A three-part, bimonthly prestige format series by Mark Russell and Mike Allred that will be raking in Eisners this time next year. Takes place before Crisis on Infinite Earths and promises all sorts of twists on Silver and Bronze Age concepts. A must-buy.

The Amazing Spider-Man #6, Marvel. It’s the 900th issue of ASM because comics math. Comes with a bajillion variants. I think my fave is this one by Benjamin Su.

Ant-Man #1, Marvel. A five-part series by Al Ewing and Tom Reilly that plays with the history of every Ant-Man. Dig the main cover by Reilly. Scott would pick this if he were here, because dude is all about Ant-Man.

World of Betty and Veronica Jumbo Comics Digest #17, Archie. Aside from the obvious gag, there’s a more subtle wink here – Veronica is wearing a complete (certainly expensive) cycling kit, Betty is making do with what’s in her closet and Sabrina’s not even bothering because why should she? (I’m married to a cyclist. I notice these things.)

  1. Notice that Superman Space Age uses the original Superman Font, that has been in use since Superman #6

  2. I dig the 1940-83 “Superman” logo font being used for the upcoming “Superman: Space Age” miniseries.
