HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries #11, DC. I love this comic. I do not want it to go away. I do not want it to end next month at Issue #12. I want it to continue. Please, DC, bring this back as soon as you can. It’s a wonderful, warm homage to what we ’70s kids love. And in this issue – the Creeper!

John Buscema’s Marvel Heroes Artist’s Edition, IDW. Sells itself, doesn’t it?

Back Issue #133, TwoMorrows. It’s the Starmen issue, featuring characters and series like the Star-Spangled Kid and Starjammers, but with an especially sharp focus on James Robinson’s modern classic Starman.

Comic Book Creator #27, TwoMorrows. Artist Paul Gulacy gets a much-deserved spotlight.

John Severin: Two-Fisted Comic Book Artist, TwoMorrows. Greg Biga and Jon B. Cooke bring you a lushly illustrated bio of a comics artist who deserves more attention than he sometimes gets. Includes two American Eagle adventures!

Scott Tipton, contributor-at-large, 13th Dimension

Legion of Super-Heroes: Before the Darkness, Vol. 2, DC. More Bronze Age Legion goodness from folks like Gerry Conway, Roy Thomas and Steve Ditko!

The Secret X-Men #1, Marvel. Admittedly, I don’t know what’s led to this or why this team is such a secret, but I do like that lineup.

Marvel Masterworks Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 23, Marvel. Roger Stern and John Romita Jr. quickly made a name for themselves on Amazing Spider-Man with the introduction of the Hobgoblin. Plus, this edition includes the tear-jerking classic “The Kid Who Collects Spider-Man,” by Stern, Ron Frenz and Terry Austin.

  1. A bit of irony with the amount of Legion material that’s collected despite the actual legion not currently having their own book and not looking anything like they used to. With this I’ll have a complete run from their first appearance up to three years of Paul Levitz famous second run.

  2. I’m considering the LSH one too.

  3. I’m also looking forward to this issue of Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries, particularly because of the Creeper appearance. I’m confident that they will handle the Creeper well. I thought the Scooby Team-Up mag was a little more consistent than this one, but having Batman guest every month is probably helping sales.

  4. Looks like the TwoMorrows stuff has drifted to next week, but man, what a stuffed lineup from them.

I am also excited to add that Legion collection to my shelves – LoSH #272 and Secrets of the Legion #1 were my entry point and opened my eyes to the world of DC.
