HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

Batman: Three Jokers #1, DC. I’m pretty much semi-retired from modern comics at this point but I’ve been waiting years to find out just what the hell is going on with this whole deal. Canon? Not canon? It doesn’t matter: Make your own continuity. Regardless, I’m curious enough to close the circle on this one. By Geoff Johns, Jason Fabok and Brad Anderson.

Superman: The Man of Steel Vol. 1 HC, DC. The best Superman ever put to page, starting with John Byrne’s classic 1986 relaunch miniseries and including the early Super-issues by Byrne, Marv Wolfman and Jerry Ordway.

Fantastic Four: Antithesis #1, Marvel. Neal Adams and Mark Waid team up for a Bronze Age-flavored four-part miniseries. It’s Adams’ first full-length FF story, if you can believe it. (Click here for a SNEAK PEEK.)

Scott Tipton, contributor-at-large, 13th Dimension

X-Men Epic Collection: Proteus, Marvel. Chris Claremont and John Byrne at the height of their powers, in the run-up to the legendary Dark Phoenix Saga. X-Men never got better than this.

Iron Man Epic Collection: The Fury of the Firebrand, Marvel. Lots of great ’70s Iron Man here from Silver and Bronze Age greats like Archie Goodwin, Gerry Conway, Don Heck and George Tuska!

Star Trek: Hell’s Mirror #1, IDW. Very intrigued by this new Mirror Universe one-shot from two of my favorite creators — writer J.M. DeMatteis and artist Matthew Dow Smith!

  1. I’ve been waiting for a hardcover collection of the Byrne run on Superman FOR YEARS. I’m still absolutely baffled as to why it’s not an Omnibus (or at least a Deluxe Edition of the original mini-series). This is one of DC’s defining runs of the past 50 years. It deserves the top of the line treatment.
