HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

Green Lantern 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular #1, DC. This one-shot includes the late Denny O’Neil’s final story – illustrated by one-time partner Mike Grell. Plus, Neal Adams has a ’70s tribute variant cover — and two retailer-exclusive covers, to boot. Oh, and Ron Marz and Darryl Banks reunite for a Kyle Rayner story.

Adams’ ’70s variant

Marvels Snapshots: Captain America, Marvel. It’s ‘70s era Cap with the sequel to the Kirby classic Madbomb! By Mark Russell, Kurt Busiek, Ramon K. Perez and crew. Plus, an Alex Ross cover, a groovy Bronze Age-style variant by Perez and a Kirby variant.

Legends of the Dark Knight: Matt Wagner, DC. Collecting the writer/artist’s Batwork, including the excellent Batman and the Monster Men and Batman and the Mad Monk.

Scott Tipton, contributor-at-large, 13th Dimension

Dave Cockrum’s X-Men Artifact Edition, IDW Publishing. The earliest days of the new X-Men as designed by the great Dave Cockrum, presented in the glorious full size of the original pages of artwork. These Artifact Editions are a real treat. (Click here for an INSIDE LOOK.)

A Radical Shift of Gravity, IDW Publishing/Top Shelf. A beautiful and haunting science fiction parable about what happens to the world when one day gravity just starts to go away, and what happens to one family as they try to react to it. Written by Nick Tapalansky and illustrated by Kate Glasheen. Highly recommended.

Fantastic Four Epic Collection: The Name Is Doom, Marvel. Over 20 issues of classic Lee/Kirby greatness, reproduced in full color! (I stress that because the only time I’ve ever had a chance to read these has been in the smudgy B&W Essential reprints of the 1990s.)

Amazing Adult Fantasy Omnibus, Marvel. If you’ve never read the crazy monster comics of the early ’60s produced by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, you owe it to yourself to check these out. Larger than life and goofy as hell, I love ’em.
