HOT PICKS RETURN! With Diamond shipping again, Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Diamond is resuming shipping this week and so we bring you the return of HOT PICKS! Naturally, not all comics shops are open right now, so if you have a good one, contact yours and find out how best you can support them – and acquire these books for you. Oh, and if you’ve been enjoying RETRO HOT PICKS! the last couple of months, worry not: Due to popular demand, we’re making it a new regular feature! You’ll find it on Wednesdays from now on! Groovy! — Dan

Tales of the Batman: Steve Englehart, DC. I’ve been touting this one forever – and it’s because it’s the first time the complete classic Englehart-Rogers run has been collected in hardcover, including the Simonson chapters. This story has long been out of print and is required reading for all Batman comics fans. (And here’s a tease for you: We’ve got something BIG coming soon about this book…)

Robin: The Bronze Age Omnibus, DC. Dick Grayson, the original – and greatest — Robin at his solo peak. Great, great stories – especially the tales from Batman Family.

Superman Smashes the Klan, DC. Gene Luen Yang and Gurihiru’s story inspired by the 1940s radio show was a wonderful series and a gift to anyone who misses classic Superman. This paperback collection of the three issues should make it into every school curriculum.

Betty and Veronica Jumbo Comics Digest #282. Man, we really need a delightful diversion right now, don’t we?

Scott Tipton, contributor-at-large, 13th Dimension

Adventures of Superman: George Perez, DC Comics. This collection of Perez’s 1980s Superman work includes a nice mix of pre- and post-Crisis tales.

Stargirl by Geoff Johns TPB, DC Comics. Just in time for her TV premiere, check out the debut appearance of Stargirl in the DCU, from the pages of STARS AND S.T.R.I.P.E.! Loved this series back in the day.

Justice League of America: Celebration of 60 Years HC, DC Comics. As long as this has equal parts Silver Age, Satellite Era, JLI and Morrison, I’ll be happy. (It pretty much does. — Dan)

World’s Finest: Guardians of Earth HC, DC Comics. This batch of 1970s Superman team-up tales from the pages of World’s Finest — that do not include Batman — is news to me. But with talent like Denny O’Neil, Len Wein, Dick Dillin and Ross Andru, sure, I’ll take a chance.

NOTE: Why no Marvel? They resume shipping next week.

  1. Only problem I had with the ROBIN Omnibus is they forgot Karate Kid #14.
