HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

Superman Smashes the Klan #3, DC. Gene Luen Yang and Gurihiru’s take of the old Superman radio show is required reading for adults and kids alike.

American Mythology Archives Presents Zorro: 1958 Dell Four Color #882 #1, American Mythology. This might be the most confusing title of a comic ever. But ll you really need to know is that this is classic Alex Toth.

Wolverine #1, Marvel. Younger Man Logan finally, finally, finally returns to solo action. By Ben Percy, Adam Kubert, Viktor Bogdanovic and co.

Archie Meets the B-52s #1, Archie. Sometimes things in retrospect seem inevitable. This one-shot is by our pal Alex Segura, Matthew Rosenberg, Dan Parent. J. Bone, Glenn Whitmore and Jack Morelli.

Legion of Super-Heroes #4, DC. Brian Michael Bendis continues to lay out his vision of the 31st century with a new Legion origin. It’ll be nice and pretty too, with art by Ryan Sook, Mike Janin, Wade von Grawbadger and Jordie Bellaire.

Scott Tipton, contributor-at-large, 13th Dimension

Dollar Comics: The New Teen Titans #2, DC Comics. Those first few issues of Wolfman and Perez’s New Teen Titans were magic, and this issue was no exception, with its introduction of Slade Wilson, a.k.a. Deathstroke the Terminator in a surprisingly sad and brutal little tale. (Dan adds: I dig that this is a Dollar Comic, but this is one case where a Facsimile Edition would have been a better play. Great, classic issue.)

Taskmaster: Anything You Can Do… TPB, Marvel. I have always loved the Taskmaster, and especially that period when he was running a henchman training school for other supervillains. I love a supervillain with a good business plan. This collection of Taskmaster stories comes in conjunction with his MCU debut in Black Widow, which I’m very excited about. By a coterie of creators, including David Michelinie and George Perez.

Marvel Masterworks: Uncanny X-Men Vol. 12, Marvel. This one is a must-buy just for the two amazing Asgardian specials from X-Men and New Mutants by Chris Claremont and Arthur Adams.

  1. Is it just me or are Deathstroke from DC and Marvel’s Taskmaster VERY similar characters? It makes me think one comic company was copying the other…again. I wonder which one came first?

    • Taskmaster was designed first by George Perez. Deathstroke came later when Perez moved from Marvel to DC. I thought I read that Deathstroke was colored incorrectly by the colorist and coincidentally replicated those of Taskmaster’s uniform.
