Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to this week …
—
Scott Tipton, co-owner, Blastoff Comics, North Hollywood, Calif.
Mister Miracle #1, DC. I hear good things about this Tom King fellow, and I have always loved Scott Free and Big Barda. Gonna give this a try. Art by Mitch Gerads.
—
Jem & The Holograms: The Misfits TPB, IDW Publishing. One of my favorite comics of the year, now collected in a trade. You don’t need to be a Jem fan or even have ever read the comics before. Compelling characters and beautiful art. By Kelly Thompson and Jenn St-Onge. (NOTE: Check with your store on this. Not all have it yet. Ask.)
—
Marvel Masterworks: The Avengers Vol. 17 HC, Marvel. That sweet spot of ’80s Avengers tales by Jim Shooter, George Perez, John Byrne and Jim Starlin. This is the good stuff.
—
Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension
Justice League of America #12, DC. Batman’s JLA goes hunting for the missing Ray Palmer. Put a Silver Age hero like the Atom in the spotlight and you can count me in. By Steve Orlando and Ivan Reis.
—
The Defenders #4, Marvel. It’s a weird time to be reading Marvel right now. In the months before DC’s Flashpoint and Rebirth, I kind of felt the same way. Very little resonated because we knew Big Changes were afoot. Thank goodness, then, for a title like Defenders, which pretty much exists in its own, well-written world. By Brian Michael Bendis, David Marquez and Justin Ponsor.
—
Titans #14, DC. Probably my favorite team book right now. Which makes sense when you consider my 13 Reasons the Teen Titans are the Greatest Team Ever. Writer Dan Abnett gets it. Art by Brett Booth, Norm Rapmund and Andrew Dalhouse.
—
Red Sonja #7, Dynamite. Road trip! Her adventure in New York over, the She-Devil With a Sword rides a hog across America. No Easy Rider she. By Amy Chu and Carlos Gomez.
—
Mister Miracle #1, DC. Like Scott (Free and Tipton), I’m there. By the way, I’m glad they’re using the original trade dress.
—
True Believers, Marvel. Three more $1 reprints — all timed to Jack Kirby’s centennial this month:

Back Issue #99, TwoMorrows. A complete Batman: The Animated Series blowout. Click here for an EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW. Keep in mind though, that your shop may not get it this week, so check with your retailer.
