Holy Barris! CORGI to Re-Release Classic 1966 BATMOBILE This Fall

Both gloss AND matte…

This email just in from Corgi Model Club USA:

An original Batmobile, which belongs to comics artist Dan Jurgens. Used to illustrate this story.

We’ve only gone and done it — the Batmobile is coming your way this October!

Not only that, there will be two versions — in both MATTE and GLOSS black finishes. The MATTE black version was the ORIGINAL 1966 Corgi Batmobile, produced for only six months. It was superseded by the GLOSS version in 1967.

For Corgi collectors, the MATTE Batmobile is the ‘Holy Grail’ — one of the most sought after Corgi Toys ever. We’re pleased to announce that our edition of the MATTE Batmobile will be EXCLUSIVELY available only to members of the Corgi Model Club — a Club we have only recently launched in the USA.

For more information and details of how to join the Club, click here.

For non-Club members, the version we’ll be placing for sale in our online store will be the GLOSS black Corgi Batmobile. This will be available to pre-order from our online store later this month.

Both versions will be available in October this year.

In true Corgi Model Club style the Batmobile will come in a fantastic facsimile of the original 1960s style of box, complete with fold-out display and plinth, plus envelope with instructions, 12 missiles and a Batman lapel badge.

The model itself is a perfect working replica of the original, with Batman and Robin figures, gold wheels with red bats, a pop-out front chain slasher blade, triple rocket launchers (which satisfyingly propel the missiles via the knurled wheel) and a turbo exhaust flame that thrusts in and out.

Also Jurgens’.

Because of the increased costs involved in manufacturing the Batmobile — it is a fully licensed model and with all the features of the original — the exclusive Corgi Model Club members-only MATTE edition will be $39.99. The GLOSS black edition from our online store will be $49.99.

For Corgi Model Club members that represents a generous $10.00 saving!!

Also note the two new additions on our collection list for 2025 ~ the much-requested Chevrolet Police Car and another that many have been asking for, Corgi 406, the Land Rover 109 WB. This will be in blue with a white roof. Because of the Batmobile addition, Corgi 270 will now be our January release.

More info — and pics of the Batmobile as we finalise the factory samples — coming soon!

A few thoughts:

Instructions from Jurgens’ car

— This is huge news for Batman and Batmobile fans. It’s not hard to come by various editions of the Corgi 1966 Batmobile, but to get a dead-mint replica for $40 or $50 each — including a matte version — is incredible.

— Tip of the cowl to 13th Dimension reader Frank Bonilla, who has been beating the Bat-drum on his own for quite a while now.

— What a year to be a Batman collector. Coming soon are the Batman: Year One Artist’s Edition, the Neal Adams DC Classics Artist’s Edition, and the 1982 DC Style Guide. Plus more McFarlane Batman ’66 and Super Powers figures, as well as whatever Mego has up its sleeve.

    • I recently found my original from the ’70s. (I have long since lost the trailer and boat.) I recently added it to the grandsons’ Hot Wheels garage. I’m waiting for them to notice it. It was in very rough shape.

I had also just happened to be checking on the website this morning and saw the active link to pre-purchase. The email alert didn’t come through until much later. I immediately purchased one, but the plan is to get four more as Xmas or birthday gifts for them once they are older. So very cool!!

    • Just FYI–these model club reissues are 1/50 not the original 1/36–I received my first car and it was pretty clear what the deal was. Just got the DB5 #261 and yes indeed, it’s small, but still bigger than a Husky and quite nice!

  5. I ordered the gloss version and then joined the club so that I could also get the matte version.
