And we’re gonna be giving away prizes!
In a Bat-tastic coincidence, the 1966 Batman movie will be showing here in my hometown of White Plains, N.Y., Saturday night 9/9.
Holy night on the town!
Seriously, how cool is that? Now, the great thing is that White Plains is easily accessible from all over the New York metropolitan area — Connecticut and New Jersey included — and it’s only a 40-minute train ride from Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan.
The movie is set for 8 p.m., to be shown outdoors on Church Street between Main Street and Hamilton Avenue (a short walk from the White Plains train station). There will also be a “Super Hero Show” at 6:30 p.m., followed by a cosplay showcase at 7:15.
Here’s where it gets even more fun: Everyone who wears a costume can get entered into a raffle to win prizes from local businesses. But we here at 13th Dimension will be offering Batman ’66 toy, prop and statue prizes from companies like Diamond Select Toys, NJ Croce and Funko.
What will we be giving away? That’s a surprise. But here are two clues:
Anyway, I’ll be there that night, so make sure you come see the movie and say hello! John S. Drew from The Batcave Podcast will be there too!
Again, admission is free, though the city is asking people to bring canned goods, which will be collected for the hungry.
One last thing: I’m not at all involved in organizing the screening itself. I’m just helping out with these prizes. For more info on the event, check out the White Plains Recreation Department here. You can also call 914-422-1336. Rain date is 9/16.
Now, if I can only get the Batmobile to pick me up at my house again…
