A classic returns to shelves 2/28…
—
Watchmen and The Dark Knight Returns may be the benchmarks of 1980s superhero deconstruction but both of those landmark series were beaten to the punch by a miniseries that was no less prescient: Rick Veitch’s The One, a Cold War-era skewering of global politics and crass consumerism first published by Marvel’s Epic Comics imprint.
Unfortunately, The One has been out of print for about 15 years — but that changes 2/28, when IDW re-releases the first issue of the 6-part miniseries. (A trade collection will follow.) Not only that, the entire project has been remastered with new scans and new color supervised by Veitch.
Here’s the official solicitation blurb from IDW…
The classic revisionist superhero saga that predates Watchmen and The Dark Knight Returns! Rick Veitch’s ground-breaking series has been called the last word on superheroes. It is a world-spanning, continent-crushing, over-the-top adventure story that brings the United States and Russia to the brink of annihilation… from both nuclear warheads and crazed superheroes-run-amok!
