Dan Greenfield: What’s your Secret Origin?
Jamal Igle: I was born a poor black child… well not really. I am, however a life-long comics fan who got his start as an intern at DC Comics, got his first published work at DC on an issue of Green Lantern and spent many years at DC working on a variety of titles. I’ve also worked for practically every major publisher in the industry on projects as varied as G.I. Joe, The Terminator: Enemy of My Enemy, KISS and my own creator-owned series, Molly Danger.
What are you working on now?
Artistically, I’m drawing an issue of Sensation Comics for DC, my first Wonder Woman story. I’m also writing some Molly Danger-related material and I’m also the Vice President of Marketing for Action Lab Entertainment.
What’s your favorite convention memory?
Being treated like a rock star at Caracas Comic-Con in Venezuela. I spent a week down there, made some great friends that I still communicate with regularly and marveled at the beauty of their country. The last day I was there, I ended up doing a four-hour signing session and by the time it was over I was exhausted, but never happier.
What’s the first comic book you ever got?
It was an issue of Captain America, I can’t tell which one it was honestly. It was, however, the first comic I bought with my own money as a kid. I do have a box of what I consider to be the essentials: Crisis on Infinite Earths, X-Men #199-202, Rocketeer Adventure Magazine. Stuff like that.
What comics do you recommend right now?
Amazing Spider-Man, East of West, Saga, All-New Captain America, Batman, Ragnarok by Walt Simonson.
