DOOM PATROL AT 60: DC to Re-Release MY GREATEST ADVENTURE #80 as Facsimile Edition

EXCLUSIVE: The Doom Patrol turns 60 — and a full-on reprint of the team’s debut is coming…

I always dig it when a publisher decides to release a Facsimile Edition that’s a little offbeat — and few things in mainstream comics are as offbeat as DC’s Doom Patrol.

Well, the World’s Strangest Superheroes hit their 60th anniversary April 18 and as a special present, we’ve got an EXCLUSIVE for you: DC in July will be republishing the team’s first appearance in 1963’s My Greatest Adventure #80 as a Facsimile Edition.

Check out the official solicitation, which will be released formally by DC later this week:

MY GREATEST ADVENTURE #80 (FACSIMILE EDITION)

Written by ARNOLD DRAKE and BOB HANEY
Art and cover by BRUNO PREMIANI
Special foil variant cover by BRUNO PREMIANI ($5.99 US)

Actress and Olympic athlete Rita Farr, test pilot Larry Trainor, and daredevil Cliff Steele were three ordinary people who gained extraordinary abilities that made them outcasts from society. After being persuaded by a mysterious benefactor known as the Chief to use their unique powers for good, this trio formed the first iteration of the Doom Patrol—the World’s Strangest Heroes! This iconic facsimile reprints Elasti-Girl, Negative Man, and Robot Man’s first adventure figuring out their powers and squaring off against the sinister General Immortus.

$3.99 US | 32 pages

Due date: July 4, 2023

A few thoughts:

— In case you didn’t notice above, there will be a foil variant cover. Just a reminder that Facsimile Editions have become collectibles themselves.

— Make sure you check out Peter Bosch’s outstanding THE DOOM PATROL: A 60th Anniversary Salute in 13 IMAGES. Click here.

— Obligatory Price Comparison: An unslabbed, VG copy of an original recently sold on eBay for $285. The Facsimile Edition is four smackers.

  1. It seems like every other week Marvel is announcing a new facsimile so it’s great hearing DC has another one coming–and an “offbeat” one at that. Sold! 🙂
