A near-TREASURY SIZE hardcover from Dark Horse and Marvel…

Marvel and Dark Horse’s Bullpen Books series is still with us, and the third volume in the partnership is out this week — The Art of the Mighty Thor, featuring the illustrative stylings of none other than Jack Kirby and Walt Simonson, among many others.
The 200-page hardcover is in comics shops Wednesday, lists for $59.99, and at 10″ x 14″ is just a bit bigger than a treasury edition. The volume collects both original and previously published art.

The problem with these books is that many of the pages have already appeared in Artist’s and/or Artisan’s Editions. I ordered the Spider-Man book but returned it because I already had most, if not all, of the content.

I would think so many of these would make great facsimile editions for their covers alone.

I have this pre-ordered (I have the other two) and I’m *mostly* looking forward to reading it…except for those Vince Colletta inks. They are seriously awful. I’m still flabbergasted that he was allowed to ruin so much Kirby artwork.

The cover art, whoever inked it, is HORRENDOUS compared to the fine art finished supplied by Vince Colletta.
