Coming in May…
Hey, didja hear that Alex Ross has a whole buncha new Marvel variant covers coming? You know, the ones that are portraits? The ones that are usually parts of a larger mural and have so far ended up being in posters, calendars and whatnot?

Well, 16 — or 13 +3 in 13th Dimension parlance — are coming in May and you can check them all out below. Plus, Marvel says more will be coming later this year. (They haven’t said anything about merch, but I’d bet on it.) There will also be sketch variants.
Characters include Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Quicksilver, Nighthawk, Ant-Man, Wasp, Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel — and more.

I love Ross’ work. I’ve bought many of his posters, books and comics. But, I prefer his work in telling a story. A bunch of headshots don’t work for me as covers. That said, I am glad to see him lending his work to new mainstream comics and not just the special order issues from his website (usually at a $50+ a pop price-point). I doubt I buy any of these.

Alex Ross’ Marvel Timeless series would make a great trading card set. It could look like a school year book of portrait photos. I wonder if he is considering doing a DC Timeless version also.
