Dig MIKE GRELL’s Tribute to the JAMES BOND Movies

A BIRTHDAY SALUTE: Iron Mike turns 76…

A little while back, we celebrated artist Paul Gulacy’s birthday with a look at his work on the 1992 Doug Moench-penned James Bond limited series Serpent’s Tooth from Dark Horse Comics and Acme Press.

Well, let’s not forget that the great Mike Grell — born 76 years ago on Sept. 13, 1947 — also lent his considerable visual chops to 007 in 1989’s three-part graphic novel, Permission to Die, from Eclipse and Acme.

I was prepared to do a similar 13 PAGES treatment but I was stopped cold when I saw a spread from Issue #1, which pays tribute to (most of) the ’60s Bond flicks. So it’s gonna get the spotlight all to itself.

Pay attention, 007:

Very good, Mr. Grell.

  1. Been a Grell fan since his unmistakable artwork fell under my eyes in High School (or earlier!) in the 70s! Thanks so much for this! Happy Birthday, Mike!
