EXCLUSIVE: NEW FUN COMICS #1, the first ongoing comic book with all-new material, is getting the oversize reprint treatment…
DC has three Facsimile Editions coming in September and they each deserve their own spotlight, so click here and here for the other two.
In this case, we’ve got a 90th anniversary reprint of 1935’s New Fun Comics #1 — not only in treasury size, but in Famous First Edition size. Does that augur the return of that storied series?

Several thoughts:
— OK, here’s what we know beyond the solicitation: The reprint of the first ongoing comic with all-new material will measure 10 1/2″ x 15 1/8″, which is about the size of a Famous First Edition. (They were slightly larger than DC’s typical Bronze Age treasuries.) There’s buzz around Gotham too that supports the idea this will be an FFE but nothing official — yet. (Matches Malone is on the job.)
— Also keep in mind that DC released this as a hardcover in 2020 with this trade dress and with dimensions of 10.83″ x 15.39″ inches. It was officially called Famous First Edition: New Fun #1, #C-63 — that latter number picking up from 1978’s All-New Collectors’ Edition #C-62:
— All that said, I’m willing to go out on a limb and wager that this will ultimately be labeled a Famous First Edition and that the solicitation art of the original cover is a placeholder. I could be wrong because I’m just piecing the clues together.
— But assuming I’m right — and given DC’s renewed predilection for gigantic comics — maybe, just maybe, we’ll see reprints of the original Famous First Editions, like Action Comics #1, Batman #1, All-Star Comics #3 and so forth. Or maybe not.
— Obligatory Price Comparison: An unslabbed, incomplete, total beater copy of 1935’s New Fun Comics #1 recently sold for $5,280, including buyer’s premium, through Heritage Auctions.
— As I mentioned at the outset, there are two other top-notch Facsimiles coming in September. Check out the links below.

Just looked it up on Wikipedia to confirm that, yes, this did become “More Fun Comics.” Cool combination: funny animals and the Spectre turning people into skeletons! I’ll keep my eye out for it!

Hmmmm. Looks like DC is low again on facsimiles in September, which includes one reprint in a larger size. I wonder if they’ll move to fewer but pricier books.
With the Hush reprint line ending this week and Crisis having wrapped up in March, I was hoping DC would do another run of facsimile issues. Oh well.

I wouldn’t say low. Three is a solid number, including a treasury. The odd-month treasury schedule is continuing, as well. Don’t forget: The last 6 months included two Hush issues a month, and for a year there was Crisis, which also increased numbers.

The solicits show this as having only 32 pages. If true, that explains the $9.99 price rather than the usual $14.99 for oversized books like this.

The original New Fun Comcs #1 was 32 pages.

My mistake! I read the Famous First Edition hardcover when it was released a few years ago but didn’t remember all the new material they added.
