In the world of comic books, few writers or artists loom as large as the legendary Jack Kirby. By the early 1970s, he’d already spent 30 pioneering years innovating and exploring the comics art form.
After a groundbreaking decade at Marvel, Kirby returned to DC Comics and immediately began crafting some of his best-loved works, most notably his cosmic epic, the Fourth World saga. For anyone but Jack Kirby, this colossal masterpiece would have been contribution enough to the DC canon, but “the King” spent that same period revitalizing all corners of the DC Universe, from superhero antics to experimental horror to wartime realism, and creating such unforgettable characters as Etrigan the Demon and OMAC.

A complete LEGENDS? I’ve never had the experience of reading all the chapters straight through. I wonder if that’ll be awesome or sucktacular?
August 3, 2025
I was one of the frequent letter writers DC sent photostatic copies to and solicited responses from. My critique of issue one appears in that very issue. The setup starts off good with very good characterizations. But pretty soon devolves into predictability and fight scenes. It seems to be nothing more than a vehicle to introduce the post crisis Wonder Woman, the Detroit era Justice League and new character Amanda Waller and her creation of the new version of the Suicide Squad. At least in my opinion.

Impressive collections all, but one wonders how comfortable it would be to curl up with a 1,472 page book that should tip the scales at a couple of pounds mininmum (but at least the pockets would be lighter).

That Kirby Omnibus clocks in at over 1400 pages?! I believe that is considered a weapon in some jurisdictions, so check your local laws before ordering.
In all seriousness, that release takes the one big complaint I have about the omnibus format and nearly doubles it. Pass.

Legion of Super-Heroes, Vol #2 definitely needs to be reissued. Existing issues are going for big bucks.

You’re telling me! I paid 275 for mine!

I’ve been kicking myself for missing out on the omnibus editions of George Perez’s WW. The second and third volumes especially go for a fortune on the second-hand market. So I’ll definitely be getting that when it comes out. Same with the Legends and Suicide Squad omnibuses. The Zatanna one is super tempting, too! Oh my poor wallet…

Glad to see that the second volume of Woman Woman Omnibus, by Perez is coming back! Save me having to pay way over cover for a second hand copy on ebay!
