CORGI Teases the Return of the 1966 BATBOAT

Holy Glastron!

Corgi Model Club USA on Tuesday teased on Facebook the return of the beloved 1966 Batboat.

The post, which you can read here, gives a very broad overview of what’s going on at Corgi these days — but is accompanied with this lovely image and the line, “So we’re once more delving into the toy box to see what inspires us!”

And right there, under the question mark, is the Batboat and trailer.

Pre-orders of the recently announced 1966 Batmobile are said to be strong, so it’s pretty much a matter of time before we get the release of the classic mini based on the souped-up speedboat designed by Glastron.

An original

Since there’s no formal announcement, it’s hard to say what the price would be. The gloss Batmobile retails for $49.99 and is due in October. (Non-club members can purchase at will.)

Packaging is also a tiny mystery, but Corgi’s been sticking with the classic, original release boxes.

I, for one, would love the famed gift set:

Now, if I could only figure out how to get my hands on the club-exclusive matte Batmobile. The membership process, I have to say, is pretty convoluted and I haven’t gotten any response from customer assistance. At least the gloss Batmobile is easy to pre-order.

  1. Dan, what is it about the matte version? I do hope they offer a full set with car and boat also. That’s how I got mine back in the early 70s. I do hope at a minimum the boat alone isn’t jacked up $$$. I’ve got 5 gloss ones on order as it is. That all said, this is exciting news! I hope the Green Hornet’s ride is up next.

  3. Dan, I hope you got the membership process figured out. If not, the FB page is quite responsive and helpful.
