Classic Jumpsuit RIDDLER Makes a Much-Needed Comeback

Plus, the Shaggy Man! Here’s your FIRST LOOK at the solicitations for The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries #9 and #10

You know what I miss? Riddler in a jumpsuit. That’s what I miss.

I mean, I like the suit-and-tie look and all but to me Classic Riddler is Leotard Riddler. So it made me mighty pleased when I got my first look at DC’s December solicitations for The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries #9 and #10.

Check this out:

THE BATMAN & SCOOBY-DOO MYSTERIES #9
Written by SHOLLY FISCH
Art and cover by SCOTT JERALDS
$2.99 US | 32 pages | 9 of 12
ON SALE 12/14/21

G-g-ghosts? P-p-pirates? What’s a team of daring (and not-so-daring!) detectives to do when a buried treasure takes center stage in one of the Riddler’s latest schemes? Why, they’ll crack the case before he cracks the safe, or they’ll walk the plank, me hearties!

THE BATMAN & SCOOBY-DOO MYSTERIES #10
Written by IVAN COHEN
Art and cover by DARIO BRIZUELA
$2.99 US | 32 pages | 10 of 12
ON SALE 1/11/22

An unexpected guest star helps Batman and Mystery Inc. face one of the Justice League’s strangest foes! While the Shaggy Man menaces Scooby and friends (including Shaggy, man) at a seaside resort, only Renee Montoya, a.k.a. the Question, may have the answer to who sent the creature…and why!

A few thoughts:

— I love that this series jumps all over the place with its Bat-character styles. Issue #9’s Batman looks like the Super Friends version — and so does the Riddler. Meanwhile, Issue #10 gives us the straightforward Silver/Bronze look, but with a cartoony flourish. (Sometimes, the characters look straight out of Batman: The Animated Series, too.)

— How is it that it took this long for Shaggy to come face to face with the Shaggy Man? Or has that happened before?

— I will be so sad when this series is over. But it’ll make a great collection to give to a kid who’s really jonesing for some Batman history mixed with Scooby-Doo tomfoolery.
