Peter Parker — and readers — hit the jackpot Aug. 9, 1966, when Spider-Man fans finally got a full look at Mary Jane Watson on the last page of The Amazing Spider-Man #42.
MJ had been around for about a year and a half as a running gag — the unseen niece of Aunt May’s friend, who wanted to set Peter up on a blind date. Peter avoided it as best he could, but finally the jig was up, and when he opened the door, he found himself face to face with arguably the sexiest woman in comics history. (Thank you, John Romita!)
With Mary Jane’s 60th birthday here — she doesn’t look a day over 25 — we’ve brought in Des “DESPOP TUESDAYS” Taylor for a week of MJ (seeing as how his Mary Jane is second only to Romita’s).
So, get ready for A MARY JANE A DAY, running through Saturday, Aug. 15. (Marvel meanwhile, is having its own celebration.)
