A fascinating, in-depth interview by comics writer Joshua Dysart.
It’s coming this Christmas season… In December 2022, DC released the long-awaited Batman: The Silver Age Omnibus Vol. 1. And then… nothing. But now, the publisher is finally planning the follow-up: Batman: The Silver Age Omnibus Vol. 2 is scheduled for December 2026. Dig the official description from Penguin Random House, which handles DC in the book market: BATMAN: THE SILVER AGE OMNIBUS VOL. 2 Before the modern multiverse, Batman’s world exploded into giants, aliens, and alternate destinies. Guided by award-winning co-creator Bill Finger and iconic artist Sheldon Moldoff, this era fuses classic heroism with wild Silver Age concepts, capturing the moment the Caped Crusader embraced pure imagination. When imagination meets atomic-age anxiety, Batman goes everywhere—from haunted Bat-Caves to lost seas, distant planets, and even alternate histories where his parents never died. Award-winning Batman co-creator Bill Finger and powerhouse Silver Age art teams blend bold concepts, clean adventure, and quiet emotional beats into some of the most charmingly audacious stories in the character’s history. Shape-shifting aliens, monstrous experiments, strange dimensions, and bizarre “imaginary” scenarios push the Dynamic Duo into constant reinvention. Along the way, readers will encounter the first appearances of Mr. Zero (the prototype for Mr. Freeze), Bat-Mite, and Calendar Man; and a fresh retelling of Batman’s first case. Collects Batman #117–132 and Detective Comics #258–281. $100.00 Hardcover/744 Pages On Sale December 1, 2026 — Buncha thoughts: — Following the issue mapping, a third Silver Age omnibus would likely take us to the end of the pre-New Look in 1964. That’s assuming there will be a third one. — And if there is, here’s hoping that it doesn’t take another four years to get it. — There’s been a ton of DC book news this week. Taking some time to hug a koala — but we’re still around… G’day! Starting now, we’re taking a (sort of) break from 13th Dimension’s shadowy, subterranean headquarters and headed Down Under from some Aussie sun and fun! But fret not: The comic-book website recommended by four out of five dentists will still be live, just slowing down a bit. Yes, there will be new material over the next few weeks. Yes, there will be some favorites from the vaults that, like me, haven’t seen the light of day in a while. There will be posts every day, in fact, just not as many. RETRO HOT PICKS will keep running for the duration — and boy, we have some doozies for you — and we’ll have our monthly installment of BRONZE AGE BONANZA. But there will be no regular HOT PICKS and all of our weekly features — by Kerry Callen, Bill Morrison, Des Taylor, Dakota Alexander, and Franco — will be on hiatus. (They deserve a break too!) But just wait! There’s something big for you to look forward to: After we’re back for a bit, we’re launching a special theme week at the end of the month unlike anything we’ve done in the almost 13(!) years we’ve been at this. Oh, and we’ve already got a new weekly feature that we’re readying for the summer! So, lots and lots to come, as always. For now, however, we’re turning on the autopilot and grabbing some shrimp, some meat pies and checking out that little thing they call the Great Barrier Reef. Here are 13 COVERS starring Captain Boomerang to get you — and me — in the...
