Dang, the choices are extraordinary… Clover Press’ Marvel Masterworks Kickstarter campaign was funded almost instantly last week, and the major draw, naturally, is the first four books — Marvel Masterworks: The Uncanny X-Men, Vol. 18; Marvel Masterworks: The Mighty Thor, Vol. 25; Marvel Masterworks: The Tomb of Dracula, Vol. 6; and Marvel Masterworks: Super-Villain Team-Up, Vol. 1 — that will continue the fan-favorite publishing line. But when we wrote about it, we didn’t do much on the extras, which are flat out the best we’ve ever seen. Clover already does a solid job with this sort of thing, but the offerings for the new campaign not only include the typical signed copies and whatnot, but a run of products that create a deep-dive experience and appeal to collectors who go in for all sorts of goodies, such as original art prints, journals, stickers, stationery, and on and on. For example: I’m not shilling here, either. I get nothing out of this. I just can’t resist pointing out when a company is offering something extra cool for like-minded folks. One of three covers for December’s Issue #4… DC’s six-issue Black Label series Superman: The Stranger by Wes Craig and Jason Wordie, which gives a modern view of the Man of Steel in the 1930s, continues in December with Issue #4. The hook? Superman meets Lex Luthor for the first time. The solicitation offers little beyond that, but what caught my eye is Mark Chiarello’s variant cover, which projects a strength and power befitting yesterday’s urban Man of Tomorrow.
