Julian Totino Tedesco’s back with a glorious vengeance… Artist Julian Totino Tedesco in 2021-22 did a run of variant covers for Action Comics that were utterly spectacular — painterly takes that evoked the Golden Age Superman. Now, he’s back with a variant for the DC Black Label miniseries Superman: The Stranger, by Wes Craig and colorist Jason Wordie, which chronicles the Man of Tomorrow’s beginnings in a so-called real-life version of the 1930s. THWIP! Literally! Man, I love Mark Chiarello’s Spider-Man covers. Dude gets it. (Then again, the guy gets everything when it comes to comics.) Anyway, there’s a new, four-issue, anthology miniseries starting in January called Marvel SFX: Thwip! that will — believe it or not — celebrate Spidey’s most famous sound effect. It’s a novel idea, to say the least, and there will evidently be other, similar minis down the line. (The smart money is on Marvel SFX: Snikt!) Check out Mark’s variant for Issue #1, coming January 27, 2027. It’s got a distinct black-light poster feel: Right on. — MORE — Dig These Groovy SPIDER-MAN Variant Covers by MARK CHIARELLO.
