MARVEL Plans 60th Anniversary Celebration of MARY JANE WATSON This Summer

Six decades of Tigers and jackpots… Between now and August, expect a lot of references to “Face it, Tiger… you just hit the jackpot!” because this summer is Mary Jane Watson’s 60th anniversary and Marvel is planning a groovy celebration with a special one-shot and a line of MJ variant covers. Mary Jane: Face It, Tiger #1 will feature the talents of J.M. DeMatteis, Ann Nocenti, J. Michael Staczynski, Ashley Allen, Phil Noto, Alina Erofeeva, Andrea Broccardo and Luigi Zagaria, among others. The ish, with a main cover by Jim Cheung and a variant by David Nakayama, features “all-new stories spanning her most iconic eras, plus a glimpse at what’s next for the inimitable Mary Jane,” sez Marvel. (The Nakayama cover will also be available as a virgin variant.) The broader line of variant covers, which have yet to be revealed, will run across a variety of Marvel titles. My hope is that we’ll see a Facsimile Edition of The Amazing Spider-Man #42, in which Stan Lee and John Romita introduced Mary Jane with one of the most memorable entrances in comics history. The issue came out Aug. 9, 1966. Mary Jane: Face It, Tiger #1 is due August 5. We’ll also be giving Mary Jane her due here at 13th Dimension, but more on that down the road. — MORE — This Gorgeous MARY JANE WATSON Gallery Will Lift Your Spirits. FRANK MILLER’s Final DARK KNIGHT RETURNS Facsimile Variant Is as Badass as the First Three

Coming later in May… The Batman: The Dark Knight Returns #4 Facsimile Edition is due out May 27, wrapping up the four-issue reprint run — and Frank Miller has one more superb variant cover. Dig this: Like the other covers, Miller takes the minimalist approach and while the original is a fan-favorite, the artist brings a fittingly eerie tone to this one. I’d almost call it poignant. It also riffs on Miller’s 300: If you haven’t seen the other variants — or the ones by Jim Lee, Jock, Frank Quitely, Brian Bolland, and Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and Alex Saviuk, check out the links below! — MORE — FRANK MILLER’s DARK KNIGHT RETURNS Facsimile Variant Is Pretty Badass.
