Beautiful! Dig BILL MORRISON’s Utterly Exquisite Homage to FLEISCHER SUPERMAN

MORRISON MONDAYS Meets SUPERMAN WEEK!

It’s SUPERMAN WEEK! Because there’s a fancy new movie coming out! Click here for the COMPLETE INDEX of columns and features! Look, up in the sky! — Dan

This drawing of Superman and Lois Lane is based on another drawing I did several years ago. The pose and rendering were the same in that drawing, but I was never fully satisfied with certain other aspects of that sketch. My failings nag at me every time I see that drawing, so in recognition of SUPERMAN WEEK here at 13th Dimension, I decided to take another stab at it.

Damn. Bill’s linework is simultaneously delicate and sumptuous. What mastery. — Dan

This one, like the original, is in the style of the magnificent Max and Dave Fleischer Superman theatrical cartoons of the 1940s, and I referenced an original background layout drawing from those shorts for the Metropolis skyline.

Eisner winner BILL MORRISON has been working in comics and publishing since 1993 when he co-founded Bongo Entertainment with Matt Groening, Cindy Vance and Steve Vance. At Bongo, and later as Executive Editor of Mad Magazine, he parodied the comics images he loved as a kid every chance he got. Not much has changed.

Bill is on Instagram (@atomicbattery) and Facebook (Bill Morrison/Atomic Battery Studios), and regularly takes commissions and sells published art through 4C Comics.
