Andrews. Archie Andrews…

In the ’60s, if you weren’t talking about Beatlemania or Batmania, you were talking about Bondmania, thanks to the seismic success of Sean Connery’s 007 and his legion of imitators, such as The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
It only made sense, then, that Archie Comics, which has always had its collective finger on the zeitgeist, would get in on the high-concept, espionage action.
Enter The Man From R.I.V.E.R.D.A.L.E., which debuted in Life With Archie #45 (cover-dated January 1966). The series ran for about a year and a half and has popped up a few times since.
Now, Archie is reprinting the original, written by Frank Doyle with art by Bob White, in a new trade paperback out March 20.

For some reason they didn’t reprint the first story from Life With Archie #45. They left out a bunch of the later ones too, but there are only so many pages in the book. Unfortunately the stories left un-reprinted in this volume don’t add up to enough pages to make a second collection like this, so I guess this is all we’re getting. I guess I’m glad they finally came out with *some* kind of collection of these stories, but I still can’t help wishing it had been a *complete* collection. Ah well…
