ARCHIE COMICS Brings Back BEATLEMANIA With 1964’s LAUGH #166 Facsimile Edition — and Album Cover Variants

EXCLUSIVE! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!

Archie Comics in August will be re-publishing one of its most famous — and pop-culture savvy — issues of the 1960s, with the Laugh #166 Facsimile Edition, featuring the Beatles!

Not only that, there will be two parody variant covers — one riffing on Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and one on Abbey Road.

Dig the solicitation info, which will be formally released by Archie later Thursday:

LAUGH #166 FACSIMILE EDITION

Buncha thoughts:

— Here’s the gear Sgt. Pepper’s cover, by Matt Talbot. Can you name everyone?

And here’s Rex Lindsey’s Abbey Road:

— I love when publishers listen. Two years ago, when Archie announced its Facsimile program, we ran a series of columns listing what reprints we’d want to see. Laugh #166 was one of them. As a matter of fact, a good number of our requests have come to pass. Thanks, folks! Keep ’em comin’! (Seriously, this is one that I’ve really wanted.)

— The issue is pub-dated January 1965, but came out in late 1964, the same year the Fab Four crashed American shores. (But you knew that.)

— Archie’s got other groovy stuff coming in August. Links below!

Obligatory Price Comparison: An unslabbed, kinda beat-up copy of an original Laugh #166 recently sold on ebay for about $75.
